Smile! It’s a New Day in Fairyland

I know that I have been remiss in my writing to you. I made you a promise when I started this blog. I told you that I would write often and the last couple of months I only posted once that I can remember. I can tell you that last month was a bad month for me with depression. It didn’t help that at every time I looked at the blank screen, I got a headache because I could not think of but a few words to put on the screen. I didn’t want to do you the disservice of just a few words so instead, I didn’t do anything. Now I think I did you the more wrong, and for that I am sorry.

Well, Today it hit me like a train. Do you like questions and opinions. I love talking and giving my opinion. Also, how about I ask questions and answer them here on the blog. If you have a different answer, a way of handling something, or opinion, then you can comment and tell me, I’ll read them, then I’ll post them to the blog, and reply to them so we can get a real conversation going . This way you, my readers, can have a real say so in the blog. Maybe we can even spark a real DEBATE!!!!!!!

Now I will still write other pieces. You hopefully will comment on them as well. I love your comments, and I want them. They”re the only way I know how I am doing with the blog. I need your comments you could say

It has come to my attention that people have found “spieiling” errors in my posts. I try very hard to spell correctly. I have a spell checker on my computer, but that is not to say it’s without fault. If you find a spelling mistake in one of my posts, please comment with the word (first how I spelled it – and – correct spelling) example (bieing – being). Spelling has never been my strong suit.
I want you to know that I am a Christian and a Lady, and I will respect your opinion whether is differs from mine or not. I do expect to be treated with respect as well and talked to in a tone of decency. I will not post anger, hateful, crude, sex filled comments. This will not turn into a venting or nasty blog.
My basic belief is that God is my Father and Jesus is His Son and his death saved me from Death. I have accepted Jesus into my life as my Lord and Savior and asked God to forgive me of my sins. As it turns out, I practically have to do that every day due to the fact that I’m not perfect.

I may not agree 100% with the opinions of President Trump, but I stand behind him and our government, and our judicial systems though they may be flawed. I still believe that this is the best country in the WORLD! Finally, I know I’m going to hear about this one, but I am a REPUBLICAN through and through.

Now that we have that out of the way……..Let’ s talk!

Memphis in May

Wow! May has just flown by. May is normally very important to the city to the south of me.    It’s called “Memphis in May”.  This year “Memphis in May” was boiled down to Beale Street Music Festival with bands and singers only the opening weekend and of course BBQ Festival at the Mid-End of May. The tickets to go to either of these events have always been hard to get, but this year they were extremely hard to find and expensive to the point of putting a person in debt to buy them. I didn’t even see any hype about the BBQ Contest which is just not normal.  Winning the “Memphis in May” BBQ Championship used to mean something.

I remember a totally different “Memphis in May”.  The ads would start in January. You would know who was coming for the Beale Street Music Festival by February.  The cut date for the Food Contest which include Hamburger Masters and Hot Dog Eaters as well as BBQ Contest which included Ribs – Beef and Pork, Pulled Pork, Chicken, and Turkey Legs would be in Mid March.  The games and other activities for the month are mapped out and widely advertised in April.  Tickets are made and everything is gotten ready for “Memphis in May” in April.

The way it was – “Memphis in May” starts with a weekend filled with music called Beale Street Music Festival.  You pay for a 1 or 2 day pass and get to enjoy Beale Street and the Great Concerts that come to play for the weekend. The second weekend is an art weekend that involves museum tours and tours through historic Memphis and on Sunday there is a showing of different forms of art in Tom Lee Park by the Grande Lady – The Mississippi River.

About the 15th of the month the Memphis of May  BBQ Contests set up for the Big Competition, and on Friday of the third weekend they begin their fires and start their smokers to make the best BBQ in the world.  It is normally set up in Tom Lee Park.  On that Friday the people in the Food Contests have the day to practice before the competition on Saturday. You get to walk through and taste all the good food that is being prepared. You can get 1-3 day passes but you just can’t bring in your  own food or drink.  The competition would be on Saturday and the Awards would be on Sunday.

Since May has five weekends more often than not, we have a  bike race and running marathons on the odd weekend.  If there is no odd weekend then it would happen on the final weekend. On the Sunday of the last weekend, games and one-one contests are offered on Tom Lee Park leading up to an Symphony in the Park where you bring your blankets and coolers and wine/cheese and set upon the ground to let the music  wash over you while the Mississippi rolls on by.  Ending with a wonderful fireworks show over the Mississippi River done to a grand symphony.

I guess it really shows the times.  Back in the 80’s and 90’s, people could get together and not have police guarding the outside.  You could go to a park, sit on the ground, and listen to a symphony without having to worry about anything. Now, you can’t even go to a park without a gun or mace to defend yourself.  It is really sad.  It’s a really good thing that I know that God is in Charge of Everything, so I’m not worried.  I just miss the old “Memphis in May”
